Windows Media Player cannot play exported AVI

Every single time, I get the following error out of WMP10, running on WXP.
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found.
Adobe Premier doesn't like it either.
Any suggerstions to get it wotking?
Other formats seem to work as far as I can see but I need a AVI
