How to Crop Source Image

As description in Lesson 2, you can use the built-in crop tool to get an expecting portion of image. Drag one of 8 cropping handle to resize the selecting portion () by the blue portion () being removed. There are some advanced controls on the right.

Control the Aspect Ratio

As default, you can drag cropping handles freely, thus any size of image can be get. It is recommended that the source images should have the same aspect ratio to avoid image distortion. The most simplest method is to choose the same aspect ration from Aspect Ratio Box () by cropping each source image. Note, if you may have set custom size of the movie at first, "Match to movie" is the best choice. The Landscape and the Portrait options will cause the aspect ratio reversed when cropping happens.

Rotate, Flip

Rotating is useful for some images from digital camera. Flipping may creates special effect. Turn on Rotate, Flip Switches () to allow.

  • Rotate: Allows rotation of image. 3 directions may be specify:

    • 180°: Allows 180° rotation of the image.

    • 90° CW: Allows 90° clockwise rotation of the image.

    • 90° CCW: Allows 90° counter clockwise rotation of the image.

  • Flip Vertical: Allows vertical permutation of the image.

  • Flip Horizontal: Allows horizontal permutation of the image.

Info about Size

You can see info about the original image size and the current cropping size in Size Frame ().

Remarks

When cropping an image with dots, the dots located in selected portion are in normal style, but the dots located in unselected portion are in highlighted style to remind you.

All dots located outside of the selected portion will be relocated by shrinking to suit for the selected portion after cropping. It should be avoided.

Key dots will be rotating or flipping with image.

You can move the selected portion to new position by mouse drag or keyboard shortcuts.
